Obituary of Brenda Anne 'Anna' MacSween, New Waterford

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Anne 'Anna' MacSween on March 5, 2017. Anna was born on Oct 15, 1946 to the late Ronald 'Ranni' and Mamie MacDonald in New Waterford, NS. She grew up in New Waterford where she met her late husband Connie and started a family. As her children grew older she became a hairdresser and worked for many years in Sydney and Glace Bay, travelling to hair shows and keeping her many clients looking good until she decided a career change was in order. She then went on to study at night while still working as a hairdresser until she became a PCW and was hired on with the Maple Hill Manor where she worked until her retirement in the late 90’s. Nothing made Anna more proud then finally becoming a grandmother. She loved her grandsons more than anything and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen about them or to show off her pictures of her boys. Anna loved her family and being at home and could often be found in her favorite place, the kitchen, whether it be making a big Sunday dinner as she often did or trying out a new recipe or making her famous spaghetti and meatballs. She was the consummate grandmother and loved nothing more than spending time in the kitchen with her grandsons while they tried out recipes. Anna loved to watch NASCAR and would never miss a race or the chance to see her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., win a race. Left to mourn are her sons, Johnnie (Val) and Ronnie (Natashia ); grandsons, Tristan, Brandon and Nicholas. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Neil (Gabby), Germany, Wayne (Maureen); sisters, Donna and Marion Lewis, all of New Waterford, and sisters-in law, Anita (Johnny) Martell, Sheila MacDonald, Sharon MacDonald and Martha Ropeck and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Connie, of 52 years as well as her brother, Ronnie and brother-in-law, Donnie MacSween and sister-in-law, Stella (Willy) White and mother and father-in-law, John and Bessie MacSween. We would like to thank the nursing staff and her doctors at New Waterford Hospital for her care in her final days. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 1 p.m until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
