Daniel Joseph Currie Grand Mira South / Reserve Mines With sorrow we announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Currie, only son of the late Daniel and Agnes (Rennie) Currie of Centerville, Reserve Mines. Born in 1938, Danny passed away on Friday March 17, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family. After school, Danny’s career path took him to the Canadian Air Force for a short time before he decided to come home to the mines. Through diligent study, he became a first class electrician, working at No. 26 Colliery, Lingan A and the Donkin Mine. He also worked for a time at the Heavy Water Plant, but mining was in his blood. Danny was an active member of his communities. He sat on the board of Directors for the Reserve Mines Credit Union, sang in the choirs at both St. Anthony’s in Glace Bay and St. Margaret of Scotland in Grand Mira. Dan, as he was known in Mira, belonged to the seniors and pensioner’s club there and volunteered in fund raising activities for any church denomination in the area. Danny was a most proud member of Sydney’s Golden K Club. At various times he delivered meals on wheels, served breakfast for learning at local elementary schools and manned the information booths at both the Regional Hospital and the Port of Sydney during cruise ship season. His most satisfying volunteer work with the Golden K was as part of the musical group that entertained at the Cove Guest Home on Saturdays. Danny is survived by Kathleen (MacLean), mother of his children; sons, Danny K. and Kevin; daughter, Karen (Paul) and grandson, Morgan. Also surviving are six sisters, Mary, Evelyn, Catherine, Gert (Ian Vance), Josephine, Anne (Andrew Yorke) and a number of caring nieces and nephews.
