Obituary of Judith Eileen (Connors) Roberts, New Waterford

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Judith Eileen (Connors) Roberts, 75, of New Waterford on April 12, 2017 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Waterford, Nov 18th, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Edward 'Jack' Connors and Alice Martha (Verner) Connors. After completing high school, she attended Nova Scotia Teachers College, graduating in 1961. Judy taught school in New Waterford for many years, where her love and compassion for children was truly evident. She later was employed at UCCB, retiring as book store manager. Her true passion was spending time with friends and family. As a mother, aunt, and grandmother, she developed special bonds with each of the children. She loved to sing and was a member of the Mount Carmel Choir for several decades. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her book club, together for 40 years. She was an exceptional seamstress, the winner of the National Singer Sewing Contest at an early age. Judy was an extraordinary baker and took great delight in sharing her love of baking with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her caring nature, tremendous sense of humor, and smiling eyes. She is survived by her husband Michael James Roberts, New Waterford; daughter, Kathleen (Paul) McLellan, Rothesay NB; son, Lionel (Jill) Roberts, Saint John, NB; four grandchildren, Brett and Ally McLellan, Jack and Alex Roberts; brothers, Wayne 'Buzzy' (Joan) Connors, David (Debbie) Connors, both in New Waterford; sister, Glenna (John) Hilborn, Toronto; and the many nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly. Judy was predeceased by her parents, sister, Beverly (Dave) Mackay, Truro and brother, Verner (Bette) Connors, London, ON. Sincere thanks to the palliative care team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and special gratitude to Dr. Brigitte Lowry and the nursing staff of New Waterford Consolidated Hospital for their compassion and tender care. The comfort and support provided by friends and family during the past number of months is truly appreciated. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, April 18, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
