Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Stubbert: Gardiner Mines

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Betty Stubbert, age 74 announce her sudden passing on May 25, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of John Joe and Elizabeth Jean “Lib” (Farrow) Gouthro.

Betty had eight children who kept her busy but she also took in numerous foster children. There was always room in her home and heart for children. She enjoyed staying active and participated in activities; such as baseball, skating, darts, bowling, walking and of course her many hours riding her John Deere tractor.

Betty will be sadly missed by her children: Robert (Anne), Gardiner Mines; Anna Marie Dauphinee, Ft. McMurray; Evelyn (Pat) Dube, Albert Bridge; Alex (Paula), Halifax; Rose Mary (Dan) Fraser, Halifax; Laura Lee (Darren) Donovan Edmonton; Steven (Anne Marie), Halifax; Kendis (Kevin) Laffin, Victoria, BC. Betty was blessed with sixteen grandchildren: Nicole, Christopher, Matthew, Christina, Shannon, Joshua, Michael, Alexis, Jamiee, Jason, Tyler, Allie, Brooke, Baileigh, Andrew and Makalah and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Carter and Zachary. Betty will also be sadly missed her by two brothers: Dougie and Gordie (Rosie) and her five sisters, Irene(Gerald Gilfedder), Sr. Paul Marie, Linda (Tom Browner), Donna and Claire(Kevin MacNeil).

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband Bobby in 2001; brothers Paul, Kenny, Russell and Gregory.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mira Bay, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the care and attention they provided to her.

Visitation will held Monday, May 29, 2016, from 7- 9pm at V.J.McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church basement.

Internment will take place at St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
