Obituary of Charles Robert MacPhee, New Waterford

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles Robert MacPhee, age 77, on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with family by his side.

Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late William Douglas and Hannah Mary ( Gaulton) MacPhee.

Charles was a mine supervisor and worked with Devco in various collieries throughout Cape Breton.  He worked as a trades person in sheet metal. In his younger years, he worked at Eaton’s, RBC and as a bartender.

He loved to play golf and was a golf marshal at the Seaview Golf Course. Charles was also an avid dart player and loved spending time with family and friends.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Catherine MacPhee (Roach); son, Derek MacPhee, Upper Leitches Creek; daughter, Penney (Duncan ) Campbell, Westmount; brothers, Martin (Kay) MacPhee, New Victoria,  Billy (Debbie)MacPhee, Ont;  sisters, Margie (Lorway) Vardy, New Waterford, Liz (Hugh) MacLean, Sydney; sisters- in- law, Linda MacPhee, New Waterford; In-laws, Daphne (Bill) Stevenson, Dartmouth, Betty (Gary) Micholsky, Nellie (Ken) Biggers, Lillian White, New Waterford.  Also surviving are Joseph (Paula) Roach, Glace Bay, Blair( Gail) Roach, Janet (John) Campbell, Glen (Charlene) Roach, New Waterford, Sheldon (Michelle) Roach, Halifax, Michelle (Steve) Rolfe, Scotland; grandchildren, Kayla (Keith) Buckland, Eric Pushie,  Tyler MacPhee , Brittney MacPhee, Nolan  (Leeanne) Walker, Logan Campbell, Shamus (Jami) Campbell; great- grandchildren, Morgan, Brielle, Blakely, Lilly, Jasmine, Rebecca. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Judy (Penney) MacPhee; brothers, Gar, Eddie, John, and in-laws, Albert and Lucy Penny.

A special thank you to Margie Power for the kindness and friendship you have shown over the years.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 5- 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford.. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, June 25 at 2 p.m in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.  Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.
