Obituary of Francis 'Fikey' MacNeil

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Francis 'Fikey' MacNeil, 82, on April 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital after a brief illness. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Hector and Mary Anne (MacMullin) MacNeil. He was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Parish and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Fikey was employed with Cape Breton Devco Corporation for 35 years. He was a very friendly man who was known to have a great sense of humour. Fikey loved camping in his younger years and most recently enjoyed going to bingo and the Casino. Fikey was the beloved husband of Josephine 'Finn' of 51 years; He is survived by his brother Johnnie (Jean) MacNeil, Canfield, ON; sisters Eileen (Paddy) O'Flaherty, Dolena (Jimmy) MacKinnon, Sadie Leudy; sisters-in-law Louise MacNeil, Sydney, Louise Aucoin, Delia, Hamilton, ON, Eileen (Paul) Gouthro, Kingston, ON; brothers-in-law Russell Aucoin, New Waterford, Milton 'Fenton', Hamilton, ON, Sonny (Joanne) Boudreau, Dunnville, ON. He is also survived by godchildren Gerard, Blair, Brenda, Peggy, Jason, Eddie, and Cathy (who was like a daughter to him). He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Michael 'Mickey' MacNeil, Sydney, a sister Agnes Boudreau, ON and brothers-in-law Arnie Leudy, Levi Aucoin, Ernest Aucoin and brother and sister-in-law Edith and Gus Boudreau. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
