Obituary of Mary Rosalie Digero, Scotchtown

Mary Rosalie Digero

Scotchtown

It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Rosalie Digero, age 86, on Thursday February 15, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in New Waterford on May 13,1931, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Clenda (Kendall) Helle.

She enjoyed many years with her late husband, Henry, out at their bungalow in Big Pond. It gave her great joy to have her children and grandchild there swimming, playing horse shoes and a few rounds of golf.

Mary always had the coffee on and a plate at the table for whomever should land. Mary was “mom or Nan” to her children, friends, and their children.

She was a long time member of the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. For many years she held the role of president. One of her favourite pass times was going to “Bingo” even though she was never very lucky.

Mary is survived by her children, Mary, whom she resided with, Ernie (Elaine) Scotchtown, Henry (Gail) New Victoria; brothers, Victor Helle, New Waterford, Johnny (Carol) Helle, Glace Bay; sister –in-law, Theresa Helle, New Waterford; brothers in-law, Louie Digero, Gerald Axeworthy, New Waterford; grandchildren, Troy Digero, Tracy (Sheldon) Digero, Corrine (Kevin) Crosby, Sherri (Leon) Gaudet, Stacey ( Barry) Marchesin, Laura ( Chris) Theriault and Jacqueline Landry; also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren and four great –great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Henry; brother, Paul Helle; sisters, Julia Doucette and Betty Axworthy.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12 to 3 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford.
