Obituary of Daniel Charles Wareham

It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in-law, uncle and friend. Danny, age 65, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family at his side. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Evangeline (Burke) and the late Daniel Wareham and was a member of St. Leonard’s Church, New Waterford. He was employed with Devco for over 24 years, where he worked mainly as a carpenter, in both the Lingan and Phalen Mines. Danny will be remembered as a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his wife Janice and their family. He also enjoyed doing his yard maintenance, where he was always so meticulous; doing small carpentry projects, playing tarabish and crib, cleaning his vehicle or whatever, watching hockey, especially if his Leafs were playing and he always enjoyed his cup of tea and the conversations with his friends at their table at Tim Hortons. Daniel will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 44 years Janice (Kavanaugh); sons John Paul (Bambi), Matthew (Tracy), both of Calgary, his five cherished grandchildren, Amanda whom he raised as a daughter, Jonathan, Breanne, Cody and Nova. He will also be missed by his mother Evangeline; brothers Greg (Polly), Brian (Maureen), Wally (Bernadette), Blair (Carolyn), Gerard (Edna); sisters Charlene (Gordie) Armstrong, Karen (Frankie) MacMaster, Evelyn (David) MacDonald; mother in-law Edwina "Dinny" (Kavanaugh); in-laws Tommy (Mary), Kenny (Monica), Jackie (Shauna), Robert (Bernice), Dan (Alana), Jessie (Dougie) Poirier, brother-in-law Angelo Markotjohn, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Also very special niece and god-daughter, Kalee. Danny dearly loved his aunts and uncles and his many cousins. Besides his father, he was also predeceased by a brother Kevin; father in-law John "Bo" Kavanaugh, sister in-law Patricia Markotjohn and his favourite pet lizard Izzy. In honouring Daniel’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass, presided by Fr. Norman MacPhee will be celebrated 2 pm tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in St. Leonard’s Church. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan. Following the interment, all are welcomed to meet with Danny’s family at a reception at the KOC Hall on Plummer Ave, New Waterford.
