Frank Selvet Sr., New Waterford

Obituary of Frank Selvet Sr., New Waterford

With broken hearts we sadly announce the passing of our Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, Frank Selvet. Dad passed away peacefully on April 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88.

Dad was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Frank was the youngest son of the late Frank and Annie (Skaradek) Selvet.

Known by all for his work ethic, Dad worked for over 40 years in the local coal mines. The great outdoors is where Dad found his peace, with many years of fishing and hunting. Dad was a very competitive bowler and hitting his first '400' was a very proud moment for him.

Many family vacations were spent camping in Hays River with dear friends and their families.

Frank is survived by his five daughters, Mary (Willie) Bisson, Anna (Paul) Norwood, Carol Ratchford (Walter), Dorothy (Jonathan) Ernst, Brenda Selvet (Paul) and only son, Frank Selvet, Jr. (Cindy). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his loving wife, Pauline; brother, Melvin and sister, Mary; son-in-law, Blake Ratchford and great-grandson, Tristan.

Dad's strength and determination was unforgetable. What stands out most to us, to carry in our hearts, is what he left us all; the love and importance of family. Dad, you will remain in our hearts forever.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to a charity of choice.
