It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Patrick Leo 'Patty' O'Donnell, 57, of New Waterford, on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Edward and Loretta (Aucoin) O'Donnell.
In earlier years, Pat was an avid road and floor hockey player. He was a passionate Montreal Canadiens fan who also enjoyed walking, dancing and listening to John Prine. Most of all, Pat had a great sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. He will be missed by all.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (McNamara) O'Donnell; stepdaughter, Frances Ann; stepsons, Elvis, John and Matthew; brothers, Richard (Rebecca), Stephen and Brian (Florence), all of New Waterford; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Pat was predeceased by sisters, Darlene, Wendy, and Patricia; brother, Gerry and a stepson, Marty.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Ray Huntley officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Foodbank in New Waterford or any local charity. A special thanks to the many nurses, doctors, orderlies, and cleaning staff who Pat treated equally from New Waterford to Halifax and the few stops in between throughout his lengthy illness.
