It is with sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph William "Joe" MacDonald, age 79, on Friday, March 27, 2026 at New Waterford Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John Angus and Lucy (MacIsaac) MacDonald.
At a young age, Joe entered the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). He then went on to work as a Corrections Officer in Guelph, ON for over 25 years. Joe loved sports whether he was watching or playing. He namely enjoyed Hockey and Lacrosse and watching golf on TV. Joe was a true family man who would always give a helping hand to those in need.
Surviving are sons, Joseph Todd (Jane Baker) and Liam Christopher (Ashley); brother, Walter; sisters, Bernadette, Betty, Rita, Pat and Peggy; grandchildren, Mikaela, Dylan and Alice; step-grandchildren, Maggie and Sheena; cherished Spencer and Wiedrick families.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" (Spencer); brother, John; sister, Mari-lou.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Ontario.
