Dear Lindy, our hearts are breaking.The loss of someone whom we have known and loved for so long is unbelievable. Eric was a unique individual whose gentle demeanor carried him through to the end. We will treasure always the story of his choice to pass away on his own terms, thanking all who had cared for him, making jokes and showing his wit until the end. We will speak of him often. A great loss of such a wonderful teacher. Truly blessed to have been his student at Central School. Our trip to Calgary will be a memory most of us still hold dear to our hearts. He made learning fun. Smiled all the time and respected his students. We were blessed to have him in our lives. So sorry to hear of his passing. May God embrace him as much as his memory has in the lives of his former students.

My deepest sympathy to you for the loss of Mr.McKay. He was my grade 7 homeroom teacher at Central School some 37 years ago. Such a kind man. I never heard him raise his voice in anger no matter what the circumstances. He drilled the only french phrase I know into my head for a play and to this day I can recite it (can't spell it though). Please take comfort in the fact that he helped shape the lives of a lot of young souls along his journey and he made a real difference in a lot of lives. RIP Mr. McKay. Our hearts are with you Linda at this most difficult of times.Eric and I both shared a love of sports helping to cement a high school friendship which continued into our university years.I vividly remember when the Chicago Black Hawks won the Stanley Cup in 1961 and that celestial look on Eric's face as he well knew he was probably the only Black Hawk fan in Glace Bay.
