Georgina "Georgie" Marsh, 92, of New Waterford, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side on January 31st, 2025.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Georgina was born in New Waterford, in 1932, to Jack and Bridget LeDrew.

She was a grade 12 graduate from Central High School and later a graduate of the Cape Breton Business College. She worked for a time at McCurdy’s in Sydney before marrying Jerry Marsh on February 21st, 1955.

Georgina and Jerry had four children, Donna Marsh, Stephen Marsh (Anne Marie), Cheryl Wootton (Brian) and Barbie Burke (Paul).

Georgina was a well-known costume maker including making the original mascot for the Coal Dust Days. She loved to travel and attended many figure skating and dance competitions, she could also be found on the sidelines watching her children and grandchildren in their many sports and activities.

Georgina was predeceased by her husband Jerry, and her eldest daughter Donna.

She is survived by five grandchildren; Ashley, Robert, Shauna, Brendan, Saralyn and eight great grandchildren; Carmella, Avery, Max, Logan, Chase, Brooke, Luca and Summer.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford where visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm with Reverend Duncan Roach officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home reception area.
