Obituary of John Michael Hinchey, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Michael Hinchey, age 39, at home on Feb. 1, 2025 surrounded by the love of his life, his mother, Cecilia and Wayne White, who was like a father to him.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of Cecilia (Murphy) Hinchey and the late John Michael (Beans) Hinchey.
Surviving are his mother, Cecilia; Wayne White; grandmother, Jean Murphy; many aunts and uncles; special friend, Bernie Whitehouse and the Whitehouse family; many friends out West, in Dartmouth and all over Cape Breton.
John Michael was predeceased by his grandfather, Cecil Murphy; grandparents, Betty and John Michael Hinchey; Annie and Murdock White; special aunt, Jenny Murphy; uncles, Michael Murphy and Joe White; many great aunts, uncles and cousins.
John Michael worked as a pipefitter in Alberta and at the Dartmouth Shipyards. He was a die-hard Montreal Canadiens fan who loved golfing and going to hockey games. John Michael also played baseball in New Waterford and was, at one time, coached by his aunt, Jenny. He loved animals and was especially fond of his dogs, Milo, Roxy and Jingles, and his cat, Chloe.
Many thanks to ICU, CCU, Palliative Care, VON, Homecare and Cecilia and Wayne who were care providers for John Michael in the evenings.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
