Stephen Wayne George, New Waterford Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Stephen George on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025 due to a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, poppy, brother, uncle, and a wonderful friend to all. He was filled with kindness for others, loved to laugh, and had a heart of gold. His life was a blessing to all that knew him.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila (McPhee) and their two sons, Stephen (Pam), Ottawa, ON and Daniel (Amanda), New Waterford. He was delighted to be a doting poppy to his 10 grandchildren, Brendon (Lisa), Halifax, Aiden, Cohen, Sophie, Ottawa, Keegan, Noah, Taylor, Brody, Cole, and Dylan, New Waterford. He was so proud to become a great-grandfather to Duncan, Halifax and was eagerly awaiting the imminent arrival of his first great- granddaughter.

His heart was broken in April of 2024 when his son, Keith, was killed in a car accident. He is survived by Keith’s partner, Wendy, whom he loved dearly.

Stephen is survived by his sister, Linda (Archie); his brothers, David (Millie), Brian (Elaine), Kevin (Judy), and Vince (Shelly), all of New Waterford. He also leaves aunts, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends to mourn his loss.

Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Chris George, New Waterford; his in-laws, Bernie (Caroline) McPhee and Margaret Marsh and his brother, Whitey (Lonna), Cole Harbour.

Stephen loved the outdoors whether it was his early year’s lobster fishing with Da or hunting and fishing with his brothers, picking blueberries, or his daily walks rain, snow or shine. He enjoyed many years of darts and bowling and was always ready for a game of Crib or Tarbish.

He was employed as a heavy duty mechanic until his illness forced his retirement. He loved his last 24 years with H.G. McNeil where he made many lifelong friends. He also worked with Jardine’s Trucking.

Cremation has taken place as per his wishes. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025 from noon until the Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home reception room.
