Obituary of Ross MacLeod, New Waterford
Adrian Ross MacLeod passed away peacefully at Glace Bay Hospital on Feb. 23, 2025 at the age of 85. Born on June 22, 1939 in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Cecilia (Timmons) MacLeod. Ross was also predeceased by his brother, Bernard (the late Pauline) and his sister, Brenda.
At the age of 17, Ross started working in the coal mines which lasted 40 years. He worked in Nos. 12,16, 18, 26, Lingan and Phalen. Ross spoke fondly of his time in the coal mines and of his fellow workers. He was known for his quick wit and enjoyed family get togethers and a good game of cards. Ross was also a 3rd Degree Knight and Honorary member of the K.O.C. as well as a member of The Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Church.
Ross is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie (MacKinnon) MacLeod; his sons, Ross, Ottawa, Robert (Rebecca), Barrie, ON; his daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Marsh, Kitchener, ON; his three beautiful grandchildren, Kylie, Maive, and Natalie, whom he adored.
Ross also leaves behind his much loved sisters-in-law, Margaret Anne (Gaye) Desveaux, Christina (Clifford) Durdle, Sharon (the late Winston) Campbell; brothers-in-law, Tony MacKinnon (the late Janette), Dougie (Denise) MacKinnon and Johnny MacKinnon as well as numerous much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to VON and Glace Bay doctors and nurses for their compassion, care and support.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Damien MacPherson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation or charity of your choice.
