Obituary of Audrey (Nicholson) Burke, Glace Bay

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary “Audrey” (Nicholson) Burke, age 95 of Glace Bay on Sunday, March 23^rd, 2025 at Seaview Manor.

Born in Birch Grove, she was the daughter of the late Daniel & Jane (Smith) Nicholson.

After marrying her husband David, she moved to Glace Bay and raised her family. Audrey enjoyed spending time gardening, walking and going for outings in the car. Audrey was employed by Bell Aliant for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay.

Audrey is survived by her son, Wayne (Susan), grandchildren, Danielle and Alex (Kate), great grandchildren, Matthew, Asher, Vivienne, Abigail, her sister, Peggy (Bill) Hummer, sister -in-law, Helen Nicholson and brother-in-law, Freeman Vokey and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Audrey was predeceased by her husband, David and son Lloyd Burke, her sisters, Neila (Archibald) MacRury, Mora (Vernon) MacDonald, Florence Vokey, Jean McInnis (Donald), brothers, Wesley, Allan, Murray, Donald “Nick”, and Roy “Butch” (Beverly).

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all the staff of Seaview Manor for their kindness and compassion and to all our family and friends who were so giving and generous to us over the years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15^th, 2025 from 12 (Noon) to 2 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Interment to follow in Blackbrook Cemetery with Rev. Bonnie Wynn doing the committal prayers.

In accordance with Audrey’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
