Obituary of William (Billy) MacEachern, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden but peaceful passing of William (Billy) MacEachern, age 75, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, 4E Palliative Care Unit, on Monday, April 7, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Neil and Kathleen (Kay) MacEachern. Billy was a former resident of Amelia Street, Scotchtown, but lived his last four years at Waterford Heights.
Billy was a coal miner from 1979-2000 working in Lingan, Prince and Phalen Mines. Following his retirement from the mines, he worked various jobs throughout Cape Breton and the Valley. He was a huge Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan who never missed a game. Billy also enjoyed playing cards, namely crib and tarabish, and was an avid dart player. Most importantly, he was known as a dedicated family man.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 50 years, Mary (Fortune); sons, Billy (Cheryl) and Brent (Tanya); sisters, Linda Lang and Brenda Sewell; brothers, Robbie (Marlene), Brent (Kathleen), Keith, Bruce; grandchildren, Jessica, Jeffrey, Hannah, Brett, Gracie, and Olivia (Liv); great-grandchildren, Halle and Hudson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his favorite fur buddy, his cat, Puss.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Brian.
Special thanks to the staff of Waterford Heights and 4E Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all your care and compassion.
