Obituary of Angus Joseph Nightingale, Rear Intervale-Inverness, Glace Bay

Angus Joseph Nightingale, 84, Rear Intervale Inverness County passed away on April 8th, 2025 in Taigh Solas Guest Home in North Sydney.

Angus was the son of Kit and Veronica Nightingale of Glace Bay. He was pre-deceased by his parents and by siblings Billy, Bobby, Florence, David (Beaver) and Johnny (Bear).

He is survived by sisters, Claire Chipman, Dominion, and Patricia (Jim), British Columbia, brothers Jimmy (Shelly), Beausejour, Manitoba, Karl (Pat), River Bourgeois, Daniel (Carol), Grande Greve, Raymond, Sydney and Topper (Corrine), Westmount and by cousin Donny MacInnis, Port Hood and many nieces and nephews.

Angus made his way through life as a logger, poet, wit and a genuinely gentle soul who lived life on his own terms. Angus spent many years living "off grid" deep in the woods and though gregarious by nature also treasured his solitude.

Angus was a well informed and opiniated man of varied interests and tastes. His music taste ran the gamut from haunting Scottish airs to "Wooly Bully" and he spent many hours with his collection of tapes, listening to and recording songs, stories and poems. He had a fabulous sense of humour and left many great Gussy stories to be shared among friends and family.

Angus worked at many jobs through his life but the woods was where he was happiest. In the early 1980s Angus purchased his own woodlot, and lived in his trailer there until his health forced him to move. He worked his woodlot with care and knew every inch of it. Through harvesting and silviculture treatments, Angus created a diverse and productive forest, and planted over 400,000 trees on his own and other woodlots, creating an apt legacy for himself. He truly "left it better than he found it."

The family wishes to thank the staff of Taigh Solas in North Sydney for their loving care of our brother during his final journey. We also would like to thank the staff at Inverness County Home Care for helping Angus during his time in Port Hood.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Stories will be told for years to come.

On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
