Obituary of Ronald Joseph (Ronnie) MacNeil, New Waterford

It is with sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Ronald Joseph "Ronnie" MacNeil, 72, of New Waterford on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford on Jan.1, 1953, he was the son of the late Lauchie and Margaret (Kearney) MacNeil.

In earlier years, Ronnie worked out west and later drove taxi in New Waterford for several years. He was passionate about horses and enjoyed going to the races at Northside Downs in North Sydney. Ronnie also liked tinkering on cars in his back yard.

Surviving are his partner, Joanne Wilson; special niece and nephew, Angela (Justin) MacKinnon, River Ryan and Jason (Bernice) MacNeil, New Victoria. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

Besides his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by a nephew, Lauchie MacNeil, in infancy; brothers, Hoof MacNeil, Moe MacNeil, Kye MacNeil; sister, Linda MacNeil.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, with Father Godwin Obike officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
