Michael Brian Kennedy

June 11, 1947 – May 19, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Brian Kennedy, who died peacefully on May 19th, 2025 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, at the age of 77.

Born on June 11th, 1947, Michael was a lifelong resident of River Ryan. He will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful man who was deeply loyal to his family and always ready for a good conversation. Whether he was out for one of his cherished drives to Port Morien or Mira or working on a mechanical project in his garage on Emerald Street, Michael found quiet joy in the world around him.

Michael graduated from Saint F.X. University in 1970-1971, with a B.A., B.Ed.

He dedicated 31 years of his life to teaching Grade 2 at St. Michael’s Elementary School, and while he eventually retired from the classroom, his passion for learning and connection never faded.

Michael is predeceased by his parents, Leo Kennedy of Port Morien and Mary Catherine (MacDonald) Kennedy of Glace Bay.

He is survived by his loving siblings: Patricia Cormier (Fred), John Hugh Kennedy (Karen), Edward Kennedy (Charlene), and Kevin Kennedy (Jeannette).

He is also fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces: Michael Paul, Jacquelyn, Stephen, Elizabeth, Shaun, Kathleen, and John.

A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at both the Cape Breton Regional and the New Waterford Hospitals. Your care and professionalism were so greatly appreciated by his family. In his memory, the family encourages you to take a peaceful drive, share a story with a loved one, or lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating.
