Obituary of Virginia Rose (Ginny) Rizzato, New Waterford

Dearest family and friends. We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved and adored Virginia “Ginny” Rizzato (Ling) passed away May 30, 2025, leaving behind those she loved, with many cherished memories.

Known for her kindness, generosity, honour and strength, Ginny touched the hearts and lives of all who knew her. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ginny was a special lady who loved life. She had a passion for cooking and baking, especially her famous poppyseed and banana cakes. As well, she enjoyed taking time out to join her friends for a good night of bingo. Family bingo and card night were always a night full of love and laughter. She enjoyed watching her game shows on TV, but took great pride in guessing the answers before everyone else.

Summertime was the time of year that Ginny loved. She would go out and tend to her many plants and enjoy hours on her swing. Whether it was reading a book or having a good feed of lobsters, ending the night with a bonfire.

Ginny is survived by her sons Bernie, Dino (Marilyn) and Sheila, daughter in-law, her compassionate caregiver, sister, Patsy (Frank), brothers, David (Dale), Stephen (Janice) and Joe (Catherine).  She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom were the highlight of her life.

She was predeceased by her loving mother, Margaret (MacNeil) and father Bernard Ling, by her loving husband, Nufrio, son Ricky, infant sister Mildred, as well as sisters, Mary (Mimi) and Mildred.

Ginny, we all love you and are so grateful to have such a wonderful matriarch who stayed with us in good health for so long.

A heartful thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the New Waterford Hospital and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Your care and professionalism is so greatly appreciated by her family.

Donations in memory of Ginny may be made to the Diabetic Association and the Army, Navy, Air Force, New Waterford.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. There will be no visitation.
