Obituary of Thomas Alphonse Deveaux, New Waterford

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Thomas Alphonse Deveaux at the age of 81 yrs on May 27, 2025.

Thomas is survived by his only daughter, Cathy (Gerard); his only granddaughter, Jessica Bollom; three sisters, Leona (Leonard), Emelia (Sheldon), Marie Sophie (Gordon), two brothers, Paul Joe (Rita), Claude (Dale); former wife, Leona Aucoin; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Clementine.

Born in Cheticamp, the oldest of six children, Thomas moved to Halifax, marrying and later moving to Ontario. He worked in rubber factories most of his life; first at Garlock then at Goodyear for 25 years. He returned to Cape Breton in 1987, and settled in New Waterford.

Thomas had an avid love of fishing where he spent the last few weeks with his granddaughter catching trout. He loved going to the horse races in North Sydney every Saturday, win or lose. His favourite team, The Montreal Canadiens, faithfully watched and many times playing harder than the team.

Many thanks to Angelo and Maggie Markotjohn for watching over Dad these last few years, and for being amazing neighbours.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, where visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm with Father Goodwin Obike officiating. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, New Waterford.
