Obituary of Theresa Carmel Hulme, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Carmel Hulme on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at home.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James "Jimmy" and Ellen Jane (LeBlanc) Gillis.
Carmel enjoyed going to Sangaree Island with her family, where she loved spending her evenings in sing-songs around the campfire. She also loved her annual trips to Cheticamp with the girls, playing darts, puzzles, and getting her scratch tickets. Carmel was also known to be an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Charles) Blackwood; sons, Bruce (Jackie) Hulme and Troy (Judy) Hulme; brothers, Ray (Linda), Onafray (Shirley - deceased), Johnny (Alana), Jerry (Pat), and Joe (Jackie); sisters, Donelda (Murray-deceased), Bridget (Charlie - deceased), Anne (Ian); grandchildren, Rochelle Hulme and Jenny Blackwood; great-grandchildren, Ciara and Riana; best friend, Anita Bishop; companion for 13 years, Wifred Hurley.
Besides her parents, Carmel was predeceased by her husband, George Hulme; brother, Fidel; sisters, Delores, Sandra and one sister, Carmel, in infancy; grandson, Tyler; lifelong best friend, Judy Stubbert.
Thank you to everyone who has cared for Carmel over the last number of months, specifically palliative care (Vicky and Marissa), Dr. George Burns, Dr. Anthony Giotto, Dr. Brigitte Lowry, Dr. Stephanie Lapierre, VON, homecare, New Waterford Medical Floor staff and EHS.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Damian MacPherson officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home with burial to follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.
