Obituary of James Edward (Eddy) McCarthy, Sr., New Waterford

With deepest regrets and heavy hearts, we share the news that Eddy died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at New Waterford Hospital.

Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Jerry and Mary Ann (Corbett) McCarthy.

Eddy is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Eunice (Deveaux). Da's greatest happiness was his children, Jenny (David), Eddy Jr. (Kim), Leonard and Donna; grandchildren, David, Mark (Kelsey), Crystal (JD), Brittany (Travis), Ty and his dad, Michael; great-grandchildren, Matheson, Halle, Violet, Jonah and Lainey; sisters, Rita, Yvonne (Wayne); sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Angela; brothers-in-law, Joe, Gardy and Tim; many special nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Agatha; sisters, Ann, Carmel, Shirley, Agatha, Catherine and brother, Bernie.

Eddy was a proud coal miner for 34 years. He loved sports and was an avid Chicago Black Hawks and LA Dodgers fan. He enjoyed his volunteer years with the residents of Maple Hill Manor; playing cards and poker Bingo. He was an avid walker with his good friend, Ikes.

A special thank you to Dr. Brigitte Lowry, the wonderful nursing staff at New Waterford Hospital and EHS Paramedics for all their care and compassion. 

Eddy will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.

As per Eddy's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Father Godwin Obike officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.
