Obituary of Elsie Marie Wallner, Dominion

It is with great sadness that we, the family of the beautiful Elsie Wallner (Kiri), announce her passing on June 16, 2025, at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay, at the age of 89.

Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, William Wallner; her parents, Ludvik and Eleanor (Krauss) Kiri; and her siblings, sister Irma and brothers Sonny and Herbie.

She is survived by her six children, Marilyn (Graham), Jo-Ann, Roselyn, Doug (Vickie), Bill (Lori), Karen (David), 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Born on September 23, 1935, in Dominion, NS, Elsie was a selfless and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She supported her coal miner husband and lovingly raised six children, ensuring they always felt cherished and supported.

Elsie was known as positive, kind and incredibly intelligent. She made the best of any situation and was a keen observer of life who brought smiles and life lessons to all who loved her. Elsie carried on her family’s passion for gardening- planting flowers and vegetables for everyone to enjoy. She delighted in having visitors and was an excellent cook eager to hear stories from away over one of her delicious homecooked meals.

Elsie was a natural teacher who taught piano lessons and spread her love of music to those willing to learn. She was a talented musician who played piano almost daily – encouraging everyone to join the fun. She gifted everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her with her generosity and warmth. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Seaview Manor for their exceptional care during Elsie’s final years.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21^st, 2025 at 4 p.m. followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
