Obituary of Helen (Meery) Rockett - Landry, River Ryan
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mom, sister, mother-in-law, nanny, and friend, Helen, on July 1st, 2025, at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born in New Waterford on November 28, 1940, Helen lived there until 2022, when she relocated to Halifax for care.
Helen dedicated 35 years to the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, serving as the personal secretary to the hospital administrator. Among her many roles, Helen was known for her unwavering dedication, the phrase "just ask Helen" became synonymous with getting things done.
Helen was a gracious lady, a wonderful wife, a loving mom, and a caring grandmother. Her culinary skills were legendary, particularly her pies, biscuits, cookies, and her famous "knotty buns".
Helen was a devoted Catholic and an active volunteer at her local parish, St. Michael's.
In her later years, Helen bravely faced the challenges of dementia. Despite the difficulties of this disease, she maintained her ability to stay happy and always gave us a smile during our regular visits.
Helen is survived by her son, Glen (Judy); daughters, Paula (Michael) Raby and Tracy Corbett; grandchildren, Matt (Sam), Bryan (Melissa), Erika (Jamie), Justin (Chelsey), Grace (Jordan), Aaron (Shannon), as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband(s), John "Rocky" Rockett and Ozzie Landry.
Helen was the daughter of the late Alfred and Pauline Meery and the cherished eldest sister of Ervin (Brenda), Alfie (Debbie), Geri (Lynn), Mickey, Therese (Mick-deceased), Darrell (Catherine), and her late sister, Polly-Anne (Al).
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Cathy Grechuk, Helen's goddaughter, who considered Helen as a second mother. Cathy's unwavering support has been invaluable to our family over the years.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Valerie Lewis, Dr. Sophie Corture, and the dedicated staff at Parkland and Parkstone Enhanced Care. Your support and compassion provided to Helen throughout her care and end-of-life journey were greatly appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. All are welcome to attend a visitation on Monday, July 14, 2025 from 1 p.m. until the time of her celebration of life at 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home with a private family burial to take place afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
Donations in Helen's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
