It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Eleanor Marie (Emma) Syms, 81, on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.

Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Akins.

Emma loved playing bingo. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her son, Michael (Karen) Syms; sister, Theresa (Greg) Blackwood; grandson, Tyler Syms; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Emma was predeceased by brothers, Mickey, Joe, and Greg; sisters, Sarah and Alice; son, Darren.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Godwin Obike officiating. Reception will follow in the funeral home with burial in St. Michael's cemetery afterwards.
