It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Delores Detienne, 69, on August 13th 2025 in the Palliative Care unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her close family.
Born in New Waterford, she grew up on Ling Street, and was the daughter of the late Elsie (Wilcox) Detienne and Damien ‘Dom’ Detienne.
Besides her parents, Delores was predeceased by her twin sister, Darlene, who she shared an unbreakable bond with; brothers, Leo, Jackie, Damie, Willie and her sister, Dianne.
Left to mourn Delores are her two daughters, Jenna Detienne and Elysia Detienne; her three grandsons, who meant the world to her, Owen Smith, Xavier and Grayson Snow; her niece, Sasha Detienne, who she considered a third daughter and her great-niece, Alexis (Sasha); her last surviving sibling, Jimmy (Kay). Also left to mourn Delores is her cat, Mystic, who she loved dearly and lots of friends, including her life-long best friend, Donna Lynk (White) and many nieces and nephews.
Delores loved anything to do with outdoors, gardening, woodworking, and swimming. She enjoyed spending time with her family around the fire. She had many talents including sewing, knitting, and especially baking bread which was her specialty. She loved spending time with her twin sister no matter what they did but they especially enjoyed a game of darts while having a few beers or celebrating their birthday. She had a soft spot for animals and had many pets over the years including birds, dogs, cats, fish, etc. She also cared for many stray animals.
Delores left a lasting impression on everyone she came across and will forever be loved and missed.
Special thanks to everyone from the Cape Breton Cancer Centre that went above and beyond to get her the best care and treatment.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Graveside prayers, said by Rev. Dana Feltmate, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. in Union Grove cemetery, Scotchtown. As an expression of sympathy for Delores, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
