It is with profound sadness we, the family of Myrna MacSween, announce her passing on August 29th, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Myrna was born March 27th,1941 in Glace Bay, NS to the late George and Katie MacDonald.
In her early years, Myrna was employed at Woolworths. She also worked at Needs Convenience later in life. Mom’s greatest accomplishment was staying home and raising her three children.
Myrna will be remembered for her strength and kindness. She always thought of others before herself. Family was so important to Myrna. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She especially enjoyed her Friday nights spent with Cole. Myrna also looked forward to her special visits with Sophie and Michael.
Myrna enjoyed the simple things in life like a good cup of tea, making Sunday suppers, knitting hats and mittens for friends, family and various children in Karen’s classroom. You could also find her watching curling, tennis, golf and cheering for her favorite teams, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays. Myrna had special friendships with Janice, Eva, Helen, Laura Lee, Corrine and Paula. She enjoyed many lengthy phone calls with these special friends.
Myrna is survived by her devoted daughter Karen (Allan Pyke), son Kirk (Ashlee Hayes) and grandchildren Cole, Sophie and Michael.
She was predeceased by her husband Michael, son Keith, sister Margie and brothers Allie and Earl.
As per Myrna’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
There will be a graveside service for the family at a future date in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
