Melvin Wadden, Wadden's Cove Obituary

We regret to announce the passing of Melvin Wadden, age 63, of Wadden's Cove on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Edward & Amy "Ted" (Boutilier) Wadden.

Melvin was a lifelong lobster fisherman who lived to be on the water, whether it was summer or ice fishing in the winter. He loved watching his shows (don't call between 12 & 2pm), nature, going for long drives to look for wildlife, loved cats, and spending time with Maxine and his family.

Surviving are his children, Charles Wadden, Amanda Gilmet (Adam), and Melvin Wadden (Shandi), his 5 grandchildren, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, Jersi, Jaden, and Grayson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Also surviving are his longtime partner, Maxine Yates, her children and grandchildren, with whom he shared a loving bond with, and a special shoutout to Melvin's "Baby elephant."

Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his late wife, Diane Wadden, and both of his brothers, Kevin Wadden and Donald Wadden.

A very special thank you to the entire staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Saliba, Dr. Critchley, Dr. French, and his nurse Sarah for everything they've done.

Also, to the amazing staff at EHS for his transportation, Dr. Hirsch in Halifax, And Dr. Osborne in the Cape Breton Regional ER.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.
