It is with heavy hearts, the MacNeil and Dolan families announce the peaceful passing of Donna Marie MacNeil (Brocklehurst), surrounded by her loving family in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala Palliative Care Unit on September 23rd, 2025.  Donna was born on October 10,1961 in Berwick, NS, to Cathy McNeil and Charles Brocklehurst. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving stepdad, Eric Dolan.

Left to treasure her memory is her devoted husband, Lorne; cherished son, Mark (Jen) and grandsons, Caleb and Bennett, who were her pride and joy. Also left to mourn are siblings, Linda (Peter) Rutherford, Sharon (Bruce) Rutherford, Sandy (Melanie) Dolan; in-laws, David (Giselle), Gregg (Paula), Denis (Debbie), Norman (Evelyn), Karl (Lynette) and Joann (Blaise) Campbell. Donna also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who truly adored her.

Donna worked for many years for the medical records department in Halifax. After relocating to New Waterford, Donna continued her career working from home. Donna developed many new friendships while volunteering at the New Waterford food bank, curling at the Schooner Curling Club, playing Pickleball and camping at the Ben Eoin campground.

Anyone fortunate enough to meet Donna instantly loved her. Her quiet, calming presence was one of her greatest gifts. She was thoughtful and funny, with a lighthearted spirit that made people feel at ease. At every gathering she lit up the room, always the life of the party. And when she danced, it was with a joy so free and genuine, as if no one was watching.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service as per Donnas wishes. A reception will be held at 11 a.m on Sunday, Sept. 28 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
