Mary Patricia “Patsy” Fraser (née Slade) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glace Bay on December 11, 1947, Patsy was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her son, Stevie Fraser (Sheri), and her daughter, Sheri McPhee (Paul). Her greatest joy in life was being “Nanny” to her beloved grandchildren, Kayleigh (Duncan), Vance and Lyla—she truly thought the world revolved around them.

She is predeceased by her husband, Bert Fraser; her brothers, Jimmy Slade and Joey Slade; her sister, Marie “Wee Wee” Jamieson; and her parents, Gus & Catherine (Wilson) Slade.

Patsy leaves behind her siblings Stevie Slade (Mary), Charles Slade, Lollie MacPherson (Ray), and Johnny Slade (Betty), brother-in-law, Alex Fraser (Donna), who will forever cherish her memory. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly, as well as her “daughter by choice,” Tanya Devison.

Patsy was blessed with a wide circle of friends and extended family, whose love and support brought her strength. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff of 3B, Palliative Care, and Dr. M. Keating for their kindness and compassion during her hospital stay.

She will be remembered for her warm heart, her sense of humor, and her love of bingo nights with her dear bingo pals. Patsy will also be fondly remembered for her love of dancing and the music of Johnny Reid.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2- 5 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. 

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11 am in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the lower level of the church. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery. In memory of Patsy, please perform a random act of kindness.
