Joseph Garfield (Gary) Warburton, New Waterford Obituary

Joseph Garfield (Gary) Warburton, born March 31, 1951, passed away unexpectedly on November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was the son of the late Gordon and Regina (McLeod) Warburton. He was married in Ontario to the love of his life, the late Reggie (Dimskis) Warburton, where together they raised their three children.

A hardworking man, Joseph spent 15 years with Boart Canada before returning to his hometown of New Waterford, where he drove for the family business, Midway Taxi.

Joseph lived life his own way; full of laughter, pranks, and good times. Known for his sharp wit and love of stirring the pot, he always kept everyone laughing and on their toes. He enjoyed camping, playing darts and cards, and cooking mussels over the fire with a cold drink in hand. A proud five-time darts champion and loyal Blue Jays fan, he never missed a chance to call someone out for “cheating”, usually with a grin.

Joseph loved his family deeply, even if his affection often came wrapped in humour. He shared a special bond with his son Gary; partners in crime who did everything together. His love for animals was well known, and he will be dearly missed by his family pets.

Left to mourn are his children, Gordie (Annelise), Nancy (Michael) Bennett, and Gary Jr.; his grandson, Garret (Rue) ; siblings, Gordie (Sadie), Richard, Lucille, and Vonnie; sisters-in-law, Colleen and Margie and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Jimmy, Donna (Austin), Eddie, Brian, Todd, Louis (in infancy), and brothers-in-law, Bernie and Fidel.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy, Air Force, Unit 217, New Waterford.
