It is with heavy hearts that we the family of George Washington Fortune, age 77, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Born on September 23, 1948, George was a lifelong resident of Dominion, Nova Scotia, where he built a life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

George is survived by his devoted wife Lydia, his sons Tony and George, and his daughter Maryann (Jimmy). He was a proud grandfather to Breanna, Anthony, Hayden, Jace and Keagan, all of whom brought tremendous joy to his life.

George is also survived by his sisters, Annabelle (Henry), Eileen and his brother Norman (Susan).

He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Hannah as well as his brothers, Myles and Patty and his sister, Veronica.

Known for his sharp wit and one-of-a kind personality, George had a gift for making people laugh. His sense of humor was a defining part of who he was and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Creative and full of character, he lived his life in a way entirely his own.

George cherished time spent with his family. He enjoyed playing darts, and was always around to lend a helping hand where it was needed. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 78 in Dominion where he formed many friendships over the years.

The family will forever remember his humor, his heart, and the unique spirit that made him truly unforgettable.

In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay and there will be no service.
