It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Paul (Pauly) Joseph McPhee on December 3, 2025, following a courageous battle after open-heart surgery at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
Paul was a talented welder and, in his younger years, an avid hunter and fisherman. Later in life, he found beauty in all animals. He raised bunnies, cats, and dogs, and took great joy in feeding the birds and seagulls. Paul held a deep appreciation for life and nature, a kindness that defined his spirit.
He spent most of his days with the love of his life and soulmate, Charlotte, his devoted wife of 56 years. Together, they cherished long daily drives, picnics, and the simple pleasure of each other’s company. The way Paul looked at Charlotte—full of love and admiration—was a blessing to witness.
Paul was the toughest yet most soft-natured man, known for his honesty, loyalty, and unwavering support. He was a hero, a best friend, and a confidant. His family cannot imagine life without his wisdom, strength, sweet smile, warm laugh, comforting hugs, and nightly phone calls. Until we meet again—our rock, our knight in shining armour, a beloved dad, “Pa,” and “Pauly.”
Paul was predeceased by his mother Mary (Williams) McPhee; father James McPhee; brother Michael (Mikey), and sister-in-law Sandra (Cumming) Durant.
He is survived by his precious wife Charlotte (Cumming) McPhee; his only daughter Tracey; adored grandchildren Jesse and Brea (Devon) Walker; and great-grandson Sheppard William Walker. He is also survived by his sister Anita (late Benjamin) MacKinnion; brother Phillip (Betty) McPhee; sisters Linda and Michelle McPhee, as well as many nieces and nephews. Additional loved ones include brother-in-law Edison Durant and son-in-law Billy Walker.
Cremation has taken place under the care an dguidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Due to Paul’s wishes, no services will be held.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Glace Bay General Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax for their care and efforts.
