June (Junie) Eileen MacLeod, age 80, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the Dartmouth General Hospital.

Born on June 1st, 1945, in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Junie was the daughter of the late Angus John MacLeod and Edith Catherine (Cameron) MacLeod. Junie spent most of her life in New Waterford (Scotchtown) where she was a familiar face to residents and neighbours who knew her for her long walks about town and helping her family who operated ‘The Blue Store’ in Scotchtown.

In 1992, following the death of her father, Junie relocated to Halifax to be closer to family. She became a long-time resident of the Regional Residential Services Society in Halifax for over 30 years. Junie excelled in the RRSS program and volunteered for many years at hospitals and nursing homes. Junie made lifelong friendships with her care workers and fellow residents in the program.

Junie will be fondly remembered for her kind and pleasant manner, her love of walking and socializing with her friends and family. She loved to visit the airport to watch planes and people, enjoyed daily visits to McDonalds and Tims for tea and muffins, and watching her favorite TV programs.

She was predeceased by her parents Angus and Edith, and her sister Norma MacLean. She is survived by her sister Helen Holden (Toronto); nieces, Eileen Holden (Toronto), Heather MacLean (Halifax) and Karyn Colwell (Halifax).

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff and volunteers at Regional Residential Services Society for their exceptional compassion and professional care of Junie over the past 30 years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place in June, 2026 at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, Cape Breton.The date and time will be posted on this website when confirmed.
