Derek Alexander “Relic” McNeil, age 52 of Glace Bay passed away on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Garfield Brian & Frances “Franky” (Corbett) McNeil.
Derek endured a lot of hardships and struggles throughout his life, may he now be embraced into the loving arms of his parents at the gates of heaven where eternal peace awaits his soul.
He is survived by his son, Steven Peach, brother, Brian McNeil (fiancé Alicia Wadden), his niece, Christina Marlene Boutilier and her children, step niece, Emma Comer, his half-sister, Ashley McNeil, uncles, Kenny McNeil,Craig McNeil, Shanon McNeil, Billy McNeil and many more aunts and family members.
Besides his parents, Derek was predeceased by a half-sister, Lisa, brother, Shawn Sinclaire, sister Linda Marlene Gilmet and his aunt Cordella McNeil.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation only will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Memorial donations in Derek’s memory may be made to the Cancer Society or Mental Health & Addictions at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
