Gabriel (Gabe) Alexander Hogan, New Waterford Obituary

It is with broken hearts we, the family, announce the passing of our father, Gabriel (Gabe) Alexander Hogan on Friday, January 9th 2026 at Maple Hill Manor, where he resided.

Born in New Waterford on May 28, 1950, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Hogan.

In his younger years, Da worked for Devco railway, drove taxi and enjoyed doing small engine repairs. He loved to hunt, fish and volunteered many hours with the New Waterford Fish and Game. In most recent years, he found a new joy in walking and jogging. This allowed him to stay connected to family and friends over a cup tea and something sweet, which he would never say no to. His most recent volunteer project was at Union Grove Cemetery alongside his best friends Ray Porquette and Polly Burns.

Dad was loved by so many. He walked into the heart of every person he met. He danced like no one was watching, with those fancy little dancing boots he loved so much. Da lived, he loved, he laughed. His sense of humor was unique. He'd tell a joke and no one would laugh harder than himself.

Christmas was Da’s favorite time of the year. And that wasn't hard to tell through his elaborate display; he loved to show off to anyone who wanted to see. And that Christmas display was sure to be left up until the birthday of his favorite artist, Elvis Presley, so he could sit back, enjoy it, listen to his favorite music with his silly grin and toe tapping.

Gabe is survived by his children, Beverly (Roddie) Sabourin, Trevor (Deanna) Hogan, Tanya Hogan-MacLeod, and Sandra (Baxter) Thorne; grandchildren, Joanna (Nathan), Christina, Candace (Hadley), Kelsie (Justin), Dylan, Joshua (Ava), Hunter; great-grandson, Asher; sister, Agnes Peckham; and Papa Gabe's special little buddy, Adalyn Slade; sisters-in-law, Joan (Michael) Griffin, Brenda McIntyre, Donna Radtke, Linda Radtke, and Mary Hogan; brother-in-law, Charlie (Kerri) Radtke as well as many nieces and nephews. Da will also be missed by his  furry grandkids, Cooper, Callie and Benson.

Gabe was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra (Radtke) Hogan; brothers, Jerry Hogan in infancy, Francis (Charlotte), Sam Hogan, Charlie (Noel); sisters, Maude Hogan, Joan Marie Hogan, both in infancy, Eileen Hogan (age one), Mary (Duncan) Blewer; father-in-law, Charles Radtke and mother-in-law, Gladys Radtke; brothers-in-law, Ernie Radtke, Sheldon Radtke, John McIntyre and Bernie Peckham Sr.; special fur grandkid, Hoser.

We would like to thank everyone who cared for dad over the last few years. Thank you to the staff  of Glace Bay Hospital, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, 2nd floor and Maple Hill Manor for the kindness, compassion and care you gave to our dad in his final years. We are eternally grateful for everything you have all done.
