Edward Stanley (Stan) Ludlow, Glace Bay Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Stanley Ludlow, lovingly known as “Stan.” Born on February 2, 1945, Stan passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, just days shy of his 81st birthday, at Glace Bay Hospital.

Stan is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Vera (Gallant), of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia; his brother Basil (Dorothy); his children Jason (Sherri) of Fall River, Nova Scotia, Jeffrey (Serena) of Ontario, Crystal of Bridgewater, and Michelle of New Waterford; and his treasured granddaughters, Lilyan, Lucille, and Kinleigh.

He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth (Moore) Ludlow, father Francis Ludlow, two infant brothers, his brother Bobby, his sisters Margie and Frances, his cousin Pauly, who was like a brother to him, and his nephew Jimmy, also like a brother.

In his early years, Stan worked in a variety of trades, including meat cutting, drywalling, and chimney cleaning, and took on many odd jobs throughout the Town of Glace Bay—where just about everyone knew Stan. He spent some time living and working in Ontario, but as the years passed, his heart belonged to home on Cape Breton Island. He had a lifelong passion for cars, buying them, and fixing them. He also enjoyed baseball and fishing. Stan was a die hard Montreal Canadiens fan and also cheered faithfully for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Stan was known for his playful, talkative nature and his love of a good story. Conversations often began with his familiar line, “Who’s your father?” and could easily last for hours. He loved spending time with friends at McDonald’s over a cup of coffee and had a way of captivating anyone who gave him even a few minutes of their time.

He also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, picking blueberries in the fields of Glace Bay for Vera to bake with, and proudly praising her cooking, especially her homemade bread and coconut pies. Above all else, Stan was immensely proud of his children and spoke often of them. He cherished the time spent with his three precious granddaughters and will be fondly remembered for his practical jokes, and for singing and dancing with them in the living room.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Glace Bay Hospital and Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care, compassion, and patience while caring for Stan.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6th, 2026 from 12 (noon) until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding.

Memorial donations in memory of Stan may be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
