We, the family of Albert J. MacDougall, regret to announce his sudden passing on February 3, 2026. Albert spent the first 23 years of his life in New Waterford, N.S., where he was born to his parents, Clifford and Frances (Nearing) McDougall. During this period, he attended Xavier Junior College in Sydney, N.S., Normal College in Truro, N.S., and ultimately received his B.Ed. from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.

In 1970, he moved to Sydney Mines, N.S., to begin his teaching career. The next year, he married Maureen Murphy, also from New Waterford. He and Maureen had two daughters, Leisje and Deanne. Sydney Mines became home for many years, with Coxheath and Westmount as home in his final years. He retired in 2004 after 34 years of teaching.

Albert enjoyed a quiet retirement, especially enjoying his two “precious angels”, Lauren and Ella, his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 54 years, Maureen; daughters Leisje (Jamie) Young and Deanne (Vince) MacGillivary; cherished grandchildren Ella and Lauren Hammond; brother Donald (Mary) McDougall; and sisters June Dubois and Cathy (Mick) Cashen.

Albert was predeceased by his parents; brothers Vertie, Jackie, Clifford, and Irvie; and his “special” Aunt, Flossie MacDougall.

By personal request, there will be no visitation or church service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend — we love you and will forever cherish the beautiful memories you gave us. You were an exceptional man, loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing you. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
