Alexander “Eckie” Burchell, 83, of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at Waterford Heights Long Term Care Facility in New Waterford.

Born September 6, 1942, in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Robert and Della (Guthro) Burchell. Eckie was a hardworking and dedicated member of the community. He proudly owned and operated Burchell’s Dairy in New Waterford for many years before later working at Saf-Way Auto Parts in Sydney, where he remained until his retirement.

A quiet and gentle man, Eckie found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved taking long drives around the Cabot Trail, riding his motorcycle, building and repairing things with his skilled hands, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Eckie will be deeply missed by his children, Todd Burchell (Kendal) of Dominion and Tara Kell (Arnold) of Ottawa; and by his cherished grandchildren, Conner, Melina, and Emmett, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

He is also survived by his brothers, Edward Burchell (the late Lily) and Robert Burchell (Patsy); his sisters, Snookie Burchell (the late Ray), Edie Ivy (the late Clarence), Brenda Brown (Arthur), and Beatrice Kelly (Darren); his sisters-in-law, Pauline White (Greg) and Judy Kehoe (Bill); his brothers-in-law, Byron MacKinnon (the late Eileen) and Jack MacKinnon (Fatima); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Eckie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean.

A visitation and reception will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 2–4 p.m. Burial will be held in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, at a later date.
