It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Cecil Murphy, age 62, on March 3, 2026 in the ICU at the Cape Breon Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Jean (MacLellan) Murphy and the late John Cecil Murphy. 

Cecil is survived by his mother, Jean (MacLellan) Murphy; his children that he held dear to his heart, Kelly Conway (Mason Conway) and Max Murphy; along with his three grand babies, Kenton Conway, Emma Conway and Liam Conway; his four sisters, Millie (David), Joanne, Kim (Jack) and Dianne (Arthur); as well as many nephews and nieces. 

Besides his father John Cecil, he was predeceased by his two sisters, Cecilia Hinchey and Jenny Murphy; his best friend and brother, Michael Murphy and nephew, John Michael Hinchey. 

Cecil was a lobster fisherman in his younger years amongst many other professions. He enjoyed driving down by the wharf with his best friend, Ellsworth, and going for drives with his two buddies Eddie and Jarrette. 

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Union Grove cemetery, Scotchtown, at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cape Breton Down Syndrome Society.
