James "Jimmy" Stephen McLellan, Dominion Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we the family of James Stephen (Jimmy) McLellan of Dominion announce his sudden passing on Monday, March 9th, 2026 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Jimmy grew up in Dominion and was a proud member of his community. He was born on July 9th, 1948 and was the son of the late James (Jim) McLellan and Mae (Littler) McLellan. Jimmy lived a simple life, he was a man of few words, but brought so much light and happiness wherever he went. He loved the outdoors, picking rhubarb, playing horseshoes, washer toss and helping pick out annual Christmas trees.

Jimmy also loved shooting darts, playing pool and cards, especially taking Raymond’s money playing crib. Jimmy was just pure kindness and treated every single person he met with warmth and a smile.

He was an avid sports fan, he especially loved following his Montreal Canadiens. In his free time Jimmy loved watching old Western movies, baseball games with Poppy, but especially he loved listening to his good time oldies.

Jimmy was a recipient of a kidney transplant in 2000, which was nothing short of a miracle, from his dear friend, Lisa Facchin Seymour, whom he was forever indebted to.

Jimmy was a proud employee of Glace Bay Superstore where he worked for 35 years. He also volunteered for the Dominion and Area Recreation Society during annual Seaside Daze events.

Jimmy is survived by his loving and devoted partner, Sheila Peori, brothers- in-law, Carl (Denice) Peori, Allan (Donna) Peori and sister-in-law Jean Sampson as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Melvin, Ernest and Delores, also his father and mother-in- law, William (Billy) and Elizabeth (Bessie) Peori, sister-in-law, Thelma (Bea) Berthiaume and brothers- in- law, Ray Berthiaume and James Brooks and nephew Victor Berthiaume. Jimmy was also predeceased by his adored best friend, Willie the dog.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the EHS paramedics and the staff of the Emergency Department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their patience, kindness and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diabetes Society of Canada.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Jimmy’s wishes a gathering will take place in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026. Light refreshments will be served during the gathering.

In memory of Jimmy, smile as you pass those you encounter and treat every living thing you meet with kindness.
