Beverly "Bev" Ann (Grant) O'Donnell, Glace Bay Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly (Grant) O’Donnell of Glace Bay on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the age of 71.  She was a woman who found joy in life’s simple moments and in the people around her.

Born in Glace Bay on January 11th, 1955 and later raised in Westmount, she was the daughter of the late Erma Watson.  Beverly developed an early love for farm life and animals that stayed with her throughout her years.  In her twenties, she later found her roots in Glace Bay, where she met the love of her life and began building the life and family they would share together.

Throughout her life, she had a love for crafting and creating with her hands.  Before her health limited her mobility, she cherished going for walks with her soulmate, often stopping to share warm conversations with anyone she met along the way.  She also enjoyed bowling and was known to be quite the shark at the game, often surprising others with her skill.

Above all else, she was devoted to her late husband Thomas O’Donnell (Oochie) whom she lovingly cared for, for many years.  Being his caregiver was more than a responsibility—it was an expression of the deep love and commitment they shared.  Later in life, she made the inspiring decision to return to the workforce one final time, a step that made her family incredibly proud.

She and her husband raised four children together.  Her strength, kindness, and dedication to her family will remain a lasting part of her legacy.  She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

During her time spent at the Manor, she especially treasured the many visits from her girls and the joy their dogs (Asha & Bear) brought her.  Her love for animals and the comfort of family visits always brought a smile to her face.

Beverly is survived by her daughters Angela O’Donnell-Dean, Julie O’Donnell (Trevor), son Tommy (Maggie) O’Donnell, grandchildren Logan (Sally) Dean, Blake Dean (Olivia), Elizabeth Dean, Brycen O’Donnell, Emma O’Donnell, Marcella Ward, Nathan Ward, aunt Majorie Watson, brother Kevin Grant, great grandchildren Brooklynn, Lilly, Drue, and Diem, along with her former son-in-law Leonard Dean and many nieces.

Besides her loving husband and mother, Beverly was predeceased by her youngest daughter Doris O’Donnell.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, her extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s memory to organizations promoting infection awareness and research, to charities supporting heart health, local nursing home foundations, or animal welfare.

Beverly will be remembered for her warm conversations, her creative spirit, and the deep love she shared with those around her.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026 from 12 (noon) until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment at a later date in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
