It is with deep sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of Eileen Marie Kanary of Glace Bay on March 11th, 2026 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, Nova Scotia, at the age of 85.

Born in Glace Bay in 1940, Eileen was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Tobin) Kanary, both of Glace Bay.

Eileen built a successful and diverse career. She began as a secretary with the Town of Glace Bay, later moving to the United States where she held various office roles in production facilities. Upon returning to Canada, she served with pride in the Canadian Armed Forces. She concluded her professional life as an office manager with the Government of Alberta.

Eileen found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. An avid skater and walker, she cherished the outdoors and delighted in spending time socializing with family and friends. Known for her kind heart and gentle spirit, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving sister, Joyce and her brothers, Joseph & William. Besides her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas & Maurice.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (Miners Lane) for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Eileen’s time there.
