It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Winston Fraser Jennex, age 81, of New Victoria and New Waterford, Nova Scotia on Friday, April 24th, 2026 in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.

Born in New Waterford and raised in New Victoria, Winston was the son of the late Clarence W. Jennex and Sarah M. (Fraser) Jennex.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Deborah (Bob McDonald) of Black Brook, NS, and his son, Winston James Jennex of New Waterford. Winston’s grandchildren were the light of his life, Dawn McLeod (Brian McDonald), Jessica McLeod, and Justin McLeod.

Winston was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Merissa, Brianna, Zachary, Nathan, Seth McLeod and Sarah Durando who always brought a smile to his face. Winston was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and worked on the loading docks in Toronto for many years. He later returned home to Cape Breton, where he became a skilled woodsman. He had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting and was a member of the former All Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford.

Winston is survived by his brothers and sisters, Faye, Mary, Eleanor (Bert) Sampson, Virginia, Lynn, Blair, Earl, Glenn, and John. He also shared a special bond with his brother Conrad (Phyllis), who was not only his sibling but his best friend.

Winston was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine Isabel (Springall) Jennex, as well as his siblings, Sarah, Hilda, William, Fraser, Charlie, Clarence, and Greg.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit and the Cancer Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to Vicky of the Palliative Care team for her kindness and support. The family is also grateful to New Waterford Home Care and New Waterford Hospital for their compassionate care and assistance.

As an expression of sympathy for Winston, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8th, 2026 from 12 (noon) until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Rev. Tinashe Manatsire presiding.
