Harold Sinclair Messenger, Dominion Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Harold Messenger, 71, of Dominion, announce his peaceful passing at home surrounded by his devoted family on June 11, 2026.

We take comfort in knowing Harold is reunited with his father and mother, whom he loved and missed dearly, the late Harold Sr. and Mary Alice (Forbes) Messenger.

Harold will be sadly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Tillie (Tomiczek) Messenger, loving daughter, Christina, son-in-law, Bobby Fahey (who was more like a son to him) and his granddaughters (Papa’s girls) who were Harold’s absolute pride and joy, Savannah and Izabella Fahey. They will forever cherish all of the special memories made with their Papa.

Harold is survived by his sisters, Ruth (Roger) MacNeil, Marie (Tony) MacPherson, Evelyn (Brian) Gouthro, brother-in-law Francis (Brenda) Tomiczek, sister-in-law Ethel Tomiczek-Briggs (Art-deceased) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sister, Hazel, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruno and Ethel Tomiczek, along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Harold was also predeceased by his loyal side kick, Bennie.

Harold was a proud veteran, stationed in Gagetown and served in Cyprus. He was a commissionaire at both St. Joseph’s Community Hospital and the Glace Bay General Hospital, where he made many lifelong friends. He was also a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Harold was known for being an amazing father, grandfather and husband. He was a true family man. He had a heart of gold, enjoyed story telling and of course always joking. He was a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs Fan. Harold also enjoyed playing hockey and baseball in his younger years. He could always be found “down the barn” building, fixing or having a cold one with friends.

We would like to thank New Dawn Home Care, who became like family, Continuing Care, especially Anita MacKinnon, the Palliative Care team, including Dr. Giorno and Brett Gillis and the VON. We will forever appreciate your compassion and kindness. Special thank you to Evelyn, Brian and Ethel for all of your love and support.

As per Harold’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation and arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.

Donations in Harold’s memory can be made to Palliative Care and the S.P.C.A.
