It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audrey Marie McNeil, RN of Dominion on June 28, 2026, at the age of 95 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Simon and Margaret (MacLeod) McLean, her husband, Gerard McNeil of 69 years and her 18 siblings.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Michael (Carm); her daughters Donna (Bob) Smith and Paula MacLeod; her 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; her special nieces, who were like sisters to her, Dianne O’Neil and Bina Gouthro; and her many beloved friends, neighbours, and extended family.

 Audrey graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1954 and began her nursing career at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. She went on to dedicate many years to her profession before retiring from St. Joseph’s Hospital in the late 1970s.

An avid quilter, a lively dancer, and a true social butterfly, Audrey lived life to the fullest and brought warmth and joy to everyone she met.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Unit at CB Regional Hospital, the Continuing Care angels, and the Red Cross for their compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 2nd from 6-8 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with interment in the parish cemetery followed by a reception in the church hall. Fr. Maclean Anyanwu presiding.

As an expression of sympathy for Audrey, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Palliative Care-CBRH, Immaculate Conception Church or your local foodbank.
