It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our dear kind Mother, Thelma Jean (Boutilier) Shaw of Glace Bay, N. S. on Sunday, July 5th, 2026 at the age of 90 years in Hospice, Cape Breton.
Born February 19th,1936 in Port Caledonia, she was the only child of the late Wellington “Duke” Boutilier and the late Stella (MacLeod) Boutilier.
Her Mother Stella passed away not long after her birth and mom was raised by her Aunt Margaret and Uncle Clyde MacLeod of Big Glace Bay.
Mom found joy in the simple things of life, her strength, wisdom and love of her family will live forever in our hearts. Mom had a great love for all animals and cared for many, she found the greatest joy with the companionship of animals, a home was never complete without a loyal dog or cat.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Garfield “Gaps” Shaw in 2025, her Grandson Dylan Chant in 2023 and her Granddaughter Emma Gardiner in 2024.
Mom will be deeply missed by her Daughters Patricia Chant (Yann Artur) and Tammy Gardiner (Rick Gardiner), Grandsons Garrett Chant (Jessica), Michael Chant and Alex Gardiner.
She loved spending time with her Great Grandchildren Lily and Jack Chant.
Mom had a wonderful circle of friends Elizabeth MacKillop, Diane Lynk, Stephanie (Burke) Walker and Cousins Jessie MacLeod and the Late Delores MacLeod.
The Family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mom’s exceptional friend Theresa Callaghan, whose support, love and dedicated care brought comfort and joy to Mom during her illness.
